Captain’s Corner: Sean Moore Previews Aberavon Meeting

Cardiff RFC return this afternoon to Super Rygbi Cymru action as they take on Aberavon RFC at the Cardiff Arms Park.

Dan Fish’s side will be aiming to pick up their first home win of the season, after back-to-back defeats against Carmarthen Quins and Ebbw Vale.

Today will also see Sean Moore play his first match for the Blue and Blacks since May as he makes his 95th appearance for the club. “Yeah I’m looking forward to getting back out there to start the season and leading the boys out while Craig(Hudd) is still out injured at the moment,” Moore began.

“The boys were gutted that the Ebbw game was off. It’s not often you get many chances to go back at a team the week after, especially after that disappointing result.

“I wasn’t arguing that it was off as I wasn’t fit to play until this week so, I’m happy I get to go back against them.”

“We know where we’ve gone wrong in the last two games and there’s only so much talking the coaches can do.

“Us as a group of players need to go out there and right a few wrongs from the last two games and the boys are excited to do that at home against Aberavon.”

The visitors for this afternoon’s clash come into the encounter off the back of close wins against both Newport RFC (28-24) and Bridgend Ravens (37-35).

Today will be the 183rd meeting between the two sides, which date back to a first match in March of 1893. Historically, Cardiff have the upper hand in the fixture claiming 109 wins whilst The Wizards last triumph at the Cardiff Arms Park was in December 2015, where it finished 24-8.

“Aberavon are a good team and it’s always a tough physical game against them,” continued Moore.

“We are just concentrating on what we can do as a team and getting our stuff right putting it together come Saturday, which we haven’t managed to do the last few games.

“To have two defeats on the bounce this early in the season isn’t where we want to be. I know it’s a tough league but we need to expect more from ourselves and set a higher standard and make sure we are pushing for top of the league where we want to be.

“We are hoping to start going in the right direction come Saturday against Aberavon.”
