Cardiff – RGC team news

Cardiff RFC play their first fixture in the Indigo Premiership cup this weekend when the visitors to the Arms Park will be RGC.

Following last week’s final pre-season friendly win at Carmarthen the Blue & Blacks will be looking to continue in their winning ways. The last time this fixture was scheduled was 554 days ago when RGC were due at the Arms Park and the two squads now look very different from the two selected for that game.

Head Coach, Steve Law, said of the game “its great to be starting a new season back at the Arms Park. Of course, RGC are traditionally a hard side to beat and we know how competitive this game will be. Last week we were happy with the character we showed to get us across the line at Carmarthen, but this is a different challenge, the first competitive since March 2020. The boys have trained hard and we are raring to get started. There are a lot of new faces but this is all about Cardiff RFC the team. We are all looking forward to seeing where we are and the coaching team will be looking for the performance we have been working towards.

The Cardiff team sees last week’s try scorer Jacob Beetham at fullback again this week with Barney Nightingale and Tom Habberfield selected on the wing. Cardiff rugby centre Harri Millard adds extra experience in the centre with Jack Maynard and Ethan Lloyd starting at half back.

Up front Thomas Davies and Llyr Green remain in the starting line-up with Alun Rees in the hooker berth. Two more Cardiff Rugby squad members make up the rest of the pack, Rhys Anstey and Gwilym Bradley, both of whom impressed last week, starting. Morgan Allen captains the side from No.8

On the bench Efan Daniel, Wales U20 and Cardiff Rugby academy hooker, and Ellis Bevan, Cardiff Rugby scrum half, will be new names to Blue & Black fans, one name that isn’t new is Dan Fish, the player coach again hoping to add impact as he did last week.
